Candlemaking equipment

First of all you will need some basic tools that you can find in your
kitchen. You will need some pots to do the melting in, a stove or
hotplate, even a gas stove will work. You will also need a few
dowels that you can get from any hardware store that you
will use to do the mixing with. Also try and get camping
kettles, they really make the pouring of the molten wax
a lot easier especially when you are working with
very narrow moulds or when you need to pour
very slowly.

Always remember that working with wax can be extremely
dangerous, therefore I suggest that you get a thermometer
that goes up to 100 degrees so that you are constantly aware
of the temperature of the wax that you are busy melting. If
you do not have access to a candlemaking thermometer
then just make sure that whenever you are busy melting
wax not to leave the room and make sure that the wax in
the pot doesn't start smoking or giving of vapours because
if it does it has reached flashpoint and that is when you
need to be very carefull.

There are occations when you will need to heat the wax to
flash point but this I will cover as I go through the various
types of candles and what it is that you require and do to
make them. The next thing you will require will be a work
area where there are no flammable substances and
preferrably where you can put down some
newspaper for spillages, trust me you will
have them. I will cover
more in my next post.
