Equipment-continued

If you only have a small amount of wax to work with and need to make a few candles then I would suggest that you get a measuring jug handy. Fill your mould/s with water and then empty it into the measuring jug, this will give you an indication of how much wax you will need.
Roughly a 100ml of water is equal to 90g of solid wax, therefore I would also suggest having a weighing scale handy. If you feel this is too much effort then you can simply go ahead and roughly judge how much you will need by visually comparing the size of the mould to the amount of solidwax. This is the easiest way to limit wastage if you do not have a lot of "virgin wax". Once you have colored wax you cannot reverse the process.

When you get to a stage where you are making a fair amount of candles and have a reasonable amount of wax in stock then this process sort of becomes obsolete as you will start mixing and melting larger batches of wax. When you get to this stage you should have larger/more pots in your arsenal and mix a colour per pot which will make it much easier instead of starting the process from scratch everytime. Stay tuned for more tips in my next post.
